HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Happy new year! Other than Christmas, this is probably the most exciting time of the year for me. Altough I am usually in bed before the ball drops, I just love all the excitement, TV specials (oh yes, who can miss Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo on the kissing platform this year? not me! If you didn't catch the sarcasm, there was sarcasm)and all the build up until the final moment. I thought about maybe going to a place where there is new year's eve celebration...but then I like my sleep better.

So, in lieu of some fantastic firework photos, I am going to announce some new changes.

1. We will have a new blog!! Yes, I will have to depart with my beloved blogspot. You have served me well.

2. I'd like for the blog to be more interactive! I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE, did I say LOVE comments??

3. There will be a new area with a link to online gallery. I still have not quite decided on this one. Flickr has served me well so far, but I would like to move to a more pro-level gallery viewing experience. Be on the look out for that.

4. New rates will be in effect! It will be included in the final launch of the website.

That's about all I can think of at this point. I would like to thank everybody that follows my blog on a regular basis (Kazakhstan, Holla!) and thanks for your patience in this transitional period. This is a very exciting time for me, and thanks for being part of the process and watch us grow as a business! Cheers!

YEAR IN REVIEW

what a year it has been! 2009 will go down in history as the year that I decided to take the plung and start my own photography business. So far it has been a rewarding and challenging road. Trying to balance between my full time job, family life with two young toddlers, and my passion for photography has definitely been interesting to say the least. What had originally started out as a serious hobby has become a passion and a budding business endeavor. And I am so grateful for all the people that have made it possible. Eveybody from clients, photographers I admire, friends, family, and of course I couldn't have done it without the support of my wife who has been with me every step of the way. She has been the voice of reason, my critic, and the waitress who serves me a slice of humble pie once in a while! I want to also thank my wife for putting up with my time away from family so I may pursue a passion and nurture it into a thriving business (hopefully!)

Here are some of my favoriate images from this year. Some have been posted on the blog before and some are brand new. It's a mixed bag of a little bit of everything. Enjoy!

WEBSITE IS LAUNCHED!

OMG!! My temporary website is finally up!! Setting up a website is a lot harder than I originally anticipated. The amount of hours and research that go into a presentable website is just mind blowing. As you can see, I finally found a website that is suitable for the vision I have of my photography business. I wanted something clean, modern, easy to navigate, and most importantly that shows off my photographs in a straight forward fashion. After much research I came upon a web service called http://www.wix.com/ that allows the user to create a flash based website with no knowledge of 'coding.' If you don't know what coding means, exactly my point. So far I am still working out some bugs, but at least the front page is up and running! Come back in couple of weeks for the full (hopefully) website launch!.

the actual website address is www.jeremychouphotoworks.net. You can also reach me at my new email address jeremy@jeremychouphotoworks.net.

Thanks to everybody that was kind enough to send us a Christmas card. We are extremely grateful for all the great friends and family that we are surrounded with. Holidays wouldn't be the same without all of you.

Personally, I am grateful for all the wonderful people I have met this year through my photography business. I look forward to the future and I can't wait to see what next year brings!

We wish everybody a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

PEEP SHOW FEATURING HOLLY MADISON

We also watched a show on the strip called "Peep Show" featuring Holly Madison. The show was a lot better than what we anticipated. I read a whole bunch of review online and it was a mix bag of good and bad, so we really didn't know what to expect. The show is definitely geared towards the 18+ crowd, but it wasn't overtly sexual. It's funny, cheeky, and entertaining all wrapped into one 90 minute long show.

TODD ENGLISH'S OLIVES @ BELLAGIO

We had dinner at this cool restaurant called Todd English's Olives at Bellagio. This Las Vegas offering of a Todd English favorite features a Mediterranean-style experience set against the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Bellagio. House-made pastas, steaks, rotisserie dishes, brick oven pizzas and sommelier-recommended wines complement the dining atmosphere. And no, I didn't write that, it's lifted directly from the restaurant's website.

Food was EXCELLENT, as you would expect from a $50 a plate restaurant. I didn't get too many good shots of the food because of the extremely dim light, so you will just have to take my word for it! Service was also top notch without being overbearing. I highly recommend this restaurant.

GALLAGHER'S STEAK HOUSE @ NEW YORK NEW YORK

I couldn't resist taking pictures of this cooler that showcased all of the beef from Gallagher's steak house. They don't look too appetizing right now, though.

RED ROCK CANYON IN LAS VEGAS

This was my first time visiting Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas so I was very excited to get some landscape shots in. Shooting wide open landscape is definitely a lot more different than shooting portraits. I was able to get in a couple of good photos of the red rock formation and also a family of burros.

AFGHAN FOOD/BELLY DANCING IN RANCHO CUCAMONGA

If you are into a more "exotic" wedding celebration, this might be the perfect vendor to contact! The restaurant is called Afghan Palace Cuisine, in Rancho Cucamonga. They offer catering, live belly dancing, and Hookah pipes! The belly dancer's name is Hadia, and she can be contacted through the restaurant.

PATRICK & AMY FAMILY PORTRAIT SESSION

I made a VERY last minute appointment with this family so they can get the photos in time for their Christmas cards. I am sooooo glad I did because they turned out to be such cool clients. By the time we were able to get together, the sun was setting, and I was fighting mother nature in order to get some variations in my shots. Luckily the kids cooperated, and we were able to get in quite a few shots before we completely lost daylight. The kids were absolutely adorable and even the baby hams it up for the camera! Enjoy the pictures.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS

Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday of the entire year. I love the lights, the food, the decorations, break from work, spending time with my three favorite girls in the world, etc.. I love everything about it. We went to visit the in-laws the other day and they had the best Christmas decorations! Compare to what they come up with, our decorations look like it came from Ray Charles & Co.!

It's okay, though. What I lack in talent in making stuff myself, I make it up by taking pictures of stuff other people make. So there!

RAINBOW

had to pull over on the side of freeway for this awesome rainbow. I don't think I've ever seen the rainbow actually touching down on the ground! It was absolutely beautiful, even with the overcast sky.

THE RAIN!!

Our first real rain storm of the season. I usually love the rain, just not when I have TWO photoshoots lined up that might get rained out. Oh well, at least my daughter enjoys looking at the rain and I got some cute pictures out of it.

OK....SO THIS IS WHAT I 'REALLY' LOOK LIKE

YIKES, yes that's me. And now you know why I stay behind the camera most of the time. There is also a reason why I am showing you this. As part of my standard service, I do minor touch up/air brushing for what I'd call "the money shot." This is that ONE shot that will be blown up to poster size and hung on your wall, passed along from generation to generation...maybe not that dramatic, but you get the idea. So to demonstrate, my asked my lovely wife take a picture of me and I will do a before/after comparision shot to show you guys what I will also do for your photos.

This is the "BEFORE" shot, not bad. But here's the AFTER shot...drum roll.....

Skin is smoothed out, blemishes removed, wrinkles removed (do I really have wrinkles??), and lighting corrected. Now THAT is one okay looking dude. As you can see the differnces are very subtle, but yet they make a dramatic difference in the picture. Most importantly, the picture doesn't look 'processed' at all!

This is going to be an ongoing post called "In The Darkroom" where I will demonstrate some of my techniques in getting the very best photo for you. If you have any other questions, feel free to leave me a comment or email me at jeremychou@gmail.com.
